Sunday Sabbath Poetry: Robin Pecknold

We are back, safe and sound, and find ourselves already in the humming routine of home. Not a complaint, mind you. It's back to work and class tomorrow -- actually, I'm incredibly excited for my short course on "Theology of the Reformed Tradition" -- but I wanted to post something as a peaceful beginning to the week. And what better than one of the best songs of the year? As a song, it is rhythmic, meditative, and endlessly leading; as a poem, it is different, but no less beautiful. Enjoy.

White Winter Hymnal

By Robin Pecknold (of Fleet Foxes)

I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin' in the snow
and I turned round and there you go
and Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries
in the summertime...

God's Good Darkness

And now the night descends in place, in time;
Dependable, enjoyable, as rhyme.
